Thousands of runners, walkers and supporters took to the streets for Run Army 2026, creating an unforgettable day of community spirit while raising vital funds for the organisations that support Australia's service personnel, veterans and first responders.
Held in the lead up to Anzac Day, Run Army brings together current and former Australian Defence Force members, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Fire Department, State Emergency Service (SES), Surf Life Saving Queensland and the wider community in a shared commitment to honour those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
The event continues to grow each year, with 2026 introducing a new 2.4km course, the inaugural 15km Chiefs Challenge and the much-anticipated Legacy Hill, giving participants of all ages and abilities the opportunity to challenge themselves while supporting a worthy cause. Since its inception, Run Army has raised close to $1 million for Legacy Brisbane and its fellow charity partners.
For Legacy Brisbane, 2026 marked our biggest Run Army yet.
An incredible 7,359 participants chose to run in support of Legacy Brisbane, demonstrating the strong connection our organisation continues to share with the community. The outstanding result is a reflection of the dedication of our Community Services team, Legatees and volunteers, who work tirelessly throughout the year to raise awareness of Legacy's mission and encourage people to get involved.
The fundraising results were equally inspiring.
To date, $86,795.25 has been raised through participant fundraising, with a further $36,795 expected from race entry proceeds, bringing the total contribution to more than $123,000 for Legacy Brisbane. Every dollar raised will help Legacy continue providing lifelong support to the families of veterans, ensuring they receive practical assistance, social connection and ongoing care when they need it most.
One of the day's standout achievements came from Jarryd Goundry, who was the highest individual fundraiser across the entire event. Jarryd raised an incredible $10,150 for Legacy Brisbane, demonstrating the generosity and community spirit that define Run Army. Many supporters will also recognise Jarryd as the MC of the 2025 Legacy Gala Dinner, where he generously donated his time in support of Legacy.
A new addition to the course also proved an instant success.
Legacy Hill made its debut in 2026, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about features of the event. Positioned early in the course, the climb tested participants both physically and mentally while the energetic FRMC team lined the hill, cheering runners on every step of the way.
Congratulations to Sam Pike and Murphy Rankin, who were crowned the inaugural King and Queen of Legacy Hill after recording the fastest times up the climb.
There were inspiring performances across every distance, including Legacy Brisbane CEO Brendan Cox, who completed the 10km event in an impressive sub-50 minutes. However, the true success of Run Army wasn't measured by finish times or personal bests.
It was reflected in the thousands of people who came together to recognise the ANZAC spirit, support those who serve and ensure the families of veterans continue to receive the care they deserve.
