Legacy Brisbane is preparing to enter an exciting new chapter with the development of Legacy House, a purpose-built facility that will transform the way veterans' families access support across Queensland.
More than simply a new headquarters, Legacy House represents the future of Legacy Brisbane. It has been designed to create a welcoming place where families can connect, access services and feel supported throughout every stage of their journey.
Set in the heart of Greenslopes, the new facility has been carefully positioned alongside Greenslopes Private Hospital, the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation and the Keith Payne VC Mental Health Unit, placing Legacy House within one of Queensland's leading health and veterans' precincts. The location is particularly meaningful, with many Legacy widows already having long-standing connections to the area through Greenslopes Hospital.
When it opens, Legacy House will introduce Australia's first integrated model of care dedicated to veterans' families, bringing multiple organisations together under one roof to provide more connected, accessible and holistic support.
Rather than navigating services across multiple locations, families will be able to access practical assistance, advocacy, mental health support, wellbeing programs and community connection in one welcoming environment. The model has been built around the principles of service, respect and gratitude, recognising that every family's needs are different and that support is most effective when organisations work together.
Legacy Brisbane will be joined by Mates4Mates, RSL Queensland and Open Arms – Veterans & Families Counselling, creating a collaborative network that will provide wraparound care for veterans and their families. The close proximity to neighbouring health and research organisations also creates opportunities for even greater collaboration as Legacy House continues to evolve.
Every detail of the building has been designed with families in mind. Award-winning architects Hayball have drawn on the lived experiences of Legacy families to create a space that feels warm, welcoming and connected, rather than clinical. Across three levels, Legacy House will feature flexible meeting spaces, open-plan work areas and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces filled with natural light.
Accessibility has been central to the design, with lift access throughout the building, underground parking for staff and visitors, and adjoining parkland where families can gather, children can play and the community can connect. It has been envisioned as a place where conversations happen naturally, where people feel comfortable seeking support, and where lasting relationships can be built.
Legacy House has only been made possible through the extraordinary generosity of our community. Through the Bring It Home campaign, supporters, donors and philanthropic partners have helped secure more than $8.7 million in philanthropic donations, along with more than $1 million in pro bono professional services, bringing this once-in-a-generation project to life.
As construction progresses towards completion, Legacy House stands as far more than a building. It represents a transformational investment in the future of veteran family support and a lasting commitment to ensuring the families of those who have served our nation receive the care, connection and opportunities they deserve for generations to come.
